New signups are already off. Pro users keep their features for free, and the local app gets new models until early 2027.

Meta has acquired Conductor, the app a lot of developers use to run several coding agents at once, including parallel Claude Code sessions. Axios reported the deal first, citing sources familiar with it. Terms weren’t disclosed.

Conductor itself published what happens to the product, and that’s the part that matters if you use it: Conductor Cloud is being switched off, and the local app keeps running, though not forever.

The dates

New users can no longer sign up or download the app. Existing free users can’t upgrade to pro; anyone already on pro keeps the pro features for free. On November 13 the cloud workspaces go read-only, so you can still read old chats and export data but can’t send new messages. On November 20 Conductor Cloud shuts down completely. After that, deletion of cloud user data begins, and active subscribers get a refund.

If you want to save a workspace: right-click it, choose Transfer to local, and it lands on your Mac with its chats. A full export lives under Settings, Account, Export data.

The local version keeps working as normal and will get new models and critical bug fixes until early 2027. Then it winds down too. Conductor says it has never sold or trained on user data and will delete everything when the app shuts down. It also says it has “some big, crazy plans for the next interface,” with something new to use early next year.

Why Meta wanted this one

Conductor was founded in 2024 and is led by Charlie Holtz as CEO and Jackson de Campos as CTO. Axios reads the purchase as part of the race to own the tools developers use: coding is how AI gets adopted inside companies, and developers are the most important power users. Conductor’s pace of product development and its focus on developer experience are expected to carry Meta’s next generation of coding products.

Axios adds a second motive, via an independent researcher: excelling at coding and math is what makes the models better. Coding isn’t only revenue, it’s training ground.

An interface going away matters more than a company selling

For Claude Code users this isn’t industry news, it’s a date in the calendar. If you ran your agent sessions through Conductor Cloud, you have write access until November 13 and any access at all until November 20. After that there’s the local app, and that has an expiry date too.

What stays with me: Conductor solved a problem Anthropic is still solving. Parallel agents, separate worktrees, some view of who is touching what — Claude Code has its own mechanisms for that now, but for a lot of people the interface was Conductor. That this piece ends up at Meta and gets discontinued in the process makes it the second acquisition of the day where agent tooling changed hands. OpenAI bought Pierre Computer the same Tuesday. Neither deal is about the model. Both are about the workbench in front of it.
