Numbers tell stories — but only if you know what they measure. The new market share report for June 2026 (Momentic, based on Similarweb data) delivers both: a clear headline and an important caveat.
The numbers
What’s measured here is web visits across the seven largest AI chatbots. ChatGPT leads at 54.7 percent — a sharp drop from around 76.5 percent in February 2025. Google Gemini sits second at 27.4 percent, roughly doubling in six months. Claude comes in at 8.2 percent worldwide.
But the most interesting number belongs to Claude: up 306 percent in a single quarter — from 203 million web visits in January 2026 to 824 million in April. That’s Claude jumping from about two percent through most of 2025 to 8.2 percent by April 2026. In the US, Claude actually sits well above its global average at 12.5 percent. DeepSeek holds 4.1 percent, Grok 2.8 percent.
The caveat that matters
Now the catch you need to know about: this report only measures web visits. Mobile apps don’t count — and Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini all have large iOS and Android apps. Embedded surfaces like Copilot inside Windows or Microsoft 365 are missing too. And the biggest blind spot: API usage. A large share of Anthropic’s token volume runs through enterprise APIs that generate no web visit at all.
In other words, those eight percent are only the tip everyone can see. Anthropic’s enterprise revenue is reportedly growing faster than the web numbers suggest.
My take
Caveats aside, 306 percent growth in one quarter is a statement. Anthropic is converting the mindshare it built with developers — through Claude Code, Opus 4.8, and API quality — into awareness among everyday users.
And the best part may still be ahead. With this week’s Apple announcement — Claude as a selectable AI on the iPhone — a distribution channel of over two billion devices arrives in September. These web numbers are a snapshot from before the real wave.
