Google released its tenth Gemini Drop — and this time there’s more than the usual model updates. Three things stand out: NotebookLM is coming directly into the Gemini app, there’s a native Mac app, and Personal Intelligence now reads your emails.

Notebooks: NotebookLM inside Gemini

This is the biggest addition. You can now create Notebooks directly in Gemini to organize research and chats — essentially NotebookLM, but integrated into the main app. It makes the workflow much smoother since you no longer have to switch between two apps.

For anyone already using NotebookLM for deep research: this is a logical step. Google is merging its AI tools into a single interface.

Native Mac app

Gemini is now available as a native macOS app — for anyone running macOS 15 (Sequoia) or later on Apple Silicon. The app can be summoned from anywhere with Option + Space, offers screen sharing (you can show Gemini what’s on your screen), and gives you access to Nano Banana for images and Veo for videos.

This is a direct shot at Claude’s desktop app and ChatGPT’s Mac version. Google wants Gemini to be your default desktop companion — not just in the browser.

Personal Intelligence for Gmail

Personal Intelligence, the feature that gives Gemini access to your Google apps, is now expanding to Gmail. Specifically: Gemini can read relevant email threads and documents before meetings and create a one-page briefing for you.

It’s practical, but also a feature worth thinking about. You’re giving an AI access to your business emails. Google emphasizes that data isn’t used for model training — but the convenience comes at the cost of data access.

What else is in the drop

The update also brings a new Switching Tool that lets you import your entire ChatGPT history into Gemini. A clever move in the fight for users. There’s also a UI redesign of the Android app with brighter colors and gradients.

And a number you can’t ignore: Gemini now has 750 million users. That’s more than ChatGPT’s last reported figure. The battle for the AI assistant market is fully underway.
