If you still want to use Fable 5 in your subscription at no extra cost: today is the last day. On July 12 the extended free window closes. From tomorrow, July 13, Anthropic’s top model is only reachable through paid usage credits.
What happens today
Fable 5 was originally set to drop out of subscription bundles on July 7. After sharp criticism from the community, Anthropic added five days just hours before the cutoff — announced via its official X account and an updated support article, not a big blog post.
During this extended window, Pro, Max, Team, and select Enterprise users could run the Mythos-class model for up to 50 percent of their weekly limits — at no extra charge. That’s exactly what ends tonight.
What applies from tomorrow
From July 13, Fable 5 is only available through prepaid usage credits. The pricing: $10 per million input tokens, $50 per million output tokens. That’s double the Opus 4.8 rates — Fable plays in a different league, and Anthropic charges for it.
Anthropic stresses this isn’t the final word: it wants to bring Fable 5 back into the subscription plans once capacity allows. There’s no date for that.
My take
The back-and-forth over Fable 5 shows one thing above all: compute capacity is the real bottleneck. Anthropic would surely love to keep the model in subscriptions permanently — it simply can’t carry it without squeezing everyone’s limits.
For you, concretely: if you have a Fable project running today where top quality matters, use the day. From tomorrow, the meter runs. And if you regularly work at Mythos level, now’s the time to do the math on what that means per month.
