Know the feeling? You’re explaining the same workflow to Claude for the third time this week — which file goes where, which column to rename, how the report should look. That’s exactly what Anthropic’s newest feature is aimed at. It’s called ‘Teach Claude a skill’ — and instead of typing, you just show it how.
How it works
You record your screen while doing a task, narrating as you go — which step you’re taking and why. Claude turns that recording into a skill it can run again on its own later. You’ll find it under ‘Record a skill’ in the plus menu of the Claude desktop app.
The goal is clear: less repetitive prompting. Especially for the small, always-the-same routines — assembling reports, maintaining spreadsheets, sorting files — Claude is meant to watch once and then handle it itself.
Who gets it
The feature is currently rolling out to Claude Pro, Max, and Team subscribers — through the Cowork interface in the desktop app. So right where Claude already works with your files and folders.
My take
This is one of those moments where you can see the direction of the product. Skills already existed — but building one was a job for people who know how to structure instructions. A screen recording, anyone can do. That’s the whole point: ‘I need to explain to Claude how this works’ becomes ‘I’ll just do it once while Claude watches.’ If it works well, the barrier shifts from prompt craft to simply demonstrating. I’ll test it this week on exactly one of those annoying weekly routines — curious how well Claude really picks it up.
