As of 23 October, Claude Enterprise gets what Pro and Max customers got in September: chat and Cowork in one place. Anthropic calls it generally available, on web, desktop and mobile.
The decision before the work disappears
Until now every team member had to pick upfront whether something was a chat or a Cowork job. That was the real friction, and it is gone. Every conversation starts as a chat. A quick question still gets a quick answer. If the task needs code or files, Claude carries on in a cloud environment that Anthropic runs, and hands back the finished document, analysis or deck.
Because the work runs in the cloud, it keeps running after you shut the laptop. Start on your computer, check it on your phone: Carvana names exactly that as the reason it fits people who are not at a desk all day. Chats, projects, connectors, skills and plugins all carry over into the unified experience.
What admins get
For Enterprise the more interesting half is administration. Access can be controlled by role, and usage gets a new Efficient mode. Agentic work costs more than a chat, and a company offering both in one surface needs a lever for that. Anthropic is shipping the lever alongside the feature.
One customer quote stands out. Daniel Padilla, CTO of LabX, says nothing broke in the transition, not across connectors, not skills, not MCPs. That is the sentence IT departments want to hear, and also the one worth verifying yourself.
Paul Simpson, a CFO and head of technology, describes the case that shows the difference. Claude worked through county, state and federal budgets plus public meeting documents, mapped how the funding streams connect, and produced a report out of it. Under ten minutes of prompting, and nobody had to stop and decide which tool the next step needed.
The schedule is holding
I wrote about the chat and Cowork merger in early October, when 10 November was the date for everyone. Enterprise lands before that, not after, which matches the pace Anthropic is keeping right now: Claude Duet three days ago, Claude Security four, and now the surface itself.
What is left is a plain observation. The split between asking something quickly and having something built was never a property of the work. It was a property of the software. That it disappears first for paying enterprises says something about where it got in the way most.
