Google is massively expanding its AI features on Google TV. Gemini-powered creative tools are coming to the big screen — and the implementation is surprisingly thoughtful.

Nano Banana and Veo on Your TV

The Gemini tab on Google TV now features a ‘Create’ button that gives access to Google’s generative AI tools. Nano Banana (Google’s image generation and editing model) lets you transform photos by voice: swap outfits, change backgrounds, generate entirely new scenes.

Veo, Google’s video generation model, is included too. Both are rolling out first on Gemini-enabled TCL TVs in the U.S., with broader device support to follow.

Google Photos Gets Smart

The Gemini integration with Google Photos on TV is genuinely practical: search for specific memories by voice — ‘Show me our last vacation’ — without scrolling through your entire library.

There’s also ‘Remix,’ which applies artistic styles like watercolor or oil painting to your photos. And ‘Dynamic Slideshows’ turns any photo collection into an animated slideshow with frames and color treatments.

YouTube Shorts on the Homescreen

Google is also bringing a ‘Short videos for you’ feed directly to the Google TV homescreen — filled with YouTube Shorts. The TV becomes a bit more of a social media device.

My Take

Honestly, AI on a TV sounded like a gimmick to me at first. But voice-powered photo search and slideshows are features I’d actually use on a big screen. Browsing photos on a TV is more fun than on your phone — and if Gemini makes finding them easier, that’s real value.

Image and video generation on the TV though? I’m more skeptical. Who sits on the couch generating AI images? But maybe I’m thinking too narrowly.
