Claude has officially arrived on Azure. As of June 29, Claude Opus 4.8 and Claude Haiku 4.5 are generally available in Microsoft Foundry — not as a preview, not as a beta, but as full GA.
What this means in practice
Claude now runs natively in your Azure environment. You use your existing Azure identity, your existing billing, your existing governance controls. There’s a US data zone for teams with residency requirements. And for customers with a Microsoft Enterprise Agreement, Claude usage draws down directly from your Azure commitment — one consolidated invoice.
The Messages API is ready, including prompt caching and extended thinking. Claude Code works through Foundry as well.
Why enterprise teams should care
For many enterprise teams, the biggest blocker for Claude wasn’t model quality — it was infrastructure. “We’re an Azure shop” was the argument Anthropic couldn’t counter. Now they can.
Nvidia GB300 GPUs for inference, Azure-native billing, no separate contract with Anthropic — this substantially lowers the barrier to entry for Azure customers. Anyone who stayed with OpenAI because of infrastructure concerns now has a real alternative.
The bigger picture
Anthropic is systematically expanding its distribution strategy. After the direct API, AWS Bedrock, and Google Cloud, Azure is the fourth major channel. Combined with the California government deal on the same day, a pattern emerges: Anthropic wants to be wherever customers are — regardless of which infrastructure they run.
