One week after the Mac launch, Anthropic is expanding Claude’s Computer Use to Windows. The feature is available now as a research preview in Cowork and Claude Code — provided you have a Pro or Max subscription.
What can Computer Use do on Windows?
Essentially the same things as on Mac: Claude can open apps, control keyboard and mouse, and interact with service connectors like Slack or Google Calendar. Combined with Dispatch, you can even orchestrate tasks remotely — letting your desktop work while you’re on your phone.
Cowork is growing faster than Claude Code
Just as interesting as the Windows update is a statement from Anthropic’s Chief Commercial Officer Paul Smith to Bloomberg: Cowork is attracting more users in its first few weeks than Claude Code did in its early days. That makes sense — Cowork is for everyone, not just developers. No terminal experience needed, no command line. You just say what you need.
Smith sees Cowork as the bigger product. Claude Code remains the developer tool, but Cowork has the potential to reach every knowledge worker.
What it means
Windows support was overdue — most of the business world runs on Windows. The fact that Anthropic is simultaneously signaling how seriously they take Cowork shows the strategic direction: AI agents aren’t just for writing code, they’re for automating entire desktop workflows. For everyone, not just techies.
