Just ahead of WWDC, Bloomberg published leaked renders showing what Apple has planned for Siri — and it’s more than a facelift. Siri is getting an entirely new app that competes directly with ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini.
A Standalone Siri App
The biggest change: Siri won’t just be triggered via the home button or Dynamic Island anymore. It’s getting a standalone app where you can chat, upload documents and photos, and browse your conversation history — exactly like the established AI chatbots.
The Siri animation moves to the Dynamic Island at the top of the screen. The classic voice assistant remains, but the chat interface is the real centerpiece.
Gemini Instead of In-House Models
The most interesting part: according to the reports, the new Siri app is powered by Google Gemini. Apple isn’t relying solely on its own models — it’s bringing Google’s technology in-house, similar to the existing ChatGPT integration but more deeply embedded.
Chats can be automatically deleted after 30 days or one year — a privacy feature that’s quintessentially Apple and could set the app apart from competitors.
Timing and Context
The leaks come just days before Apple’s WWDC in June, where the official announcements are expected. For Apple, this is an overdue step: Siri lagged behind the competition for years, and the company even had to pay $250 million in a settlement because promised AI features arrived too slowly.
For the AI market, this means another billion-user pool gets access to a modern AI chatbot — right on the iPhone, no extra app needed. ChatGPT and Claude will likely feel this in the consumer segment.
