Things are moving fast. Really fast. According to matching reports from Bloomberg, CNBC, and TechCrunch, Anthropic has received multiple offers for a new funding round — in the range of $40 to $50 billion, at a valuation of $850 to $900 billion.
The Numbers in Context
For perspective: their last round in February valued the company at $380 billion. This would be more than doubling in two months. And it would be enough to overtake OpenAI, which was valued at $852 billion in March.
What’s fueling all of this is revenue. Anthropic announced this month that their annualized run rate has passed $30 billion — some sources say it’s closer to $40 billion. At the end of 2025, it was around $9 billion. That’s growth that’s remarkable even by AI standards.
Nothing Decided Yet
Important caveat: none of this is finalized. Bloomberg describes the discussions as being at a very early stage, and Anthropic hasn’t accepted any offers yet. A decision is expected at a board meeting in May.
What This Means
For us as Claude users, this is broadly good news. More capital means more compute, more research, and presumably more features. Whether the valuation is justified? Given the revenue growth and current market dynamics, investors seem convinced.
What I find personally fascinating: Anthropic was long positioned as the ‘small, safe’ challenger. Now they could become the most valuable AI startup in the world. Times are changing.
